Tornados

Well, we're not even home for a week and the storm season is starting. They just interupted NPR with a severe tornado storm warning for our county. This means that they haven't sighted an actual tornado, but that the weather conditions are right to produce one. I've canceled my plans to head out and look for a new laptop and we're staying downstairs near the "tornado shelter" (aka the space under the stairs).

It's not particularly scary, more crazy than anything else. They just announced on the tv of visibility at near zero on the freeway and cars blown off the road.

5:00 pm-
Well the rain and excitement have passed safely. No tornadoes were spotted and the cat is coming out of his secret hiding place. We're supposedly in for a week of rain and excitement! Wanna come visit?

You know we had a tornado in the 'couv, right?

You could tell the midwesterners in the house, because when the principal got on the intercom and announced a tornado warning (not a watch!) those of us from the middle didn't dither--away from the windows, you! Into the hallway!

Students were all, is this a drill?

Until they started getting text messages from family saying a tornado had been spotted.

Heh.

Anyway, since you guys haven't had any wonky weather yet in 2008, I'm sure you'll be fine during tornado season... uh...

Well, just make sure you know where to go and what to do. It's a lot like an earthquake drill, actually.

Well, we rearranged the under the stairs space aka the tornado shelter in the spring so there actually is room for the three of us to fit in there. And, it's the pantry, so you know we won't starve. Of course, we will kill each other being stuck in a tiny crawl space. Oh well. Miles is really having a hard time with the weather here. The thunder is NOT his friend.
