Reason #2: The Oregon License Plate
This may very well be the best license plate in the country:
The Douglas Fir prominently displayed in the middle, with the big mountains in the back. A very nice use and placement of the Oregon elements, without overdoing it.
And for an alternative plate, this Crater Lake plate is pretty good too.
There's a few others out there that are pretty good (New Mexico for the cool center design (although they apparently have changed to this crap design); Massachusetts for its simplicity (and this one is perfect in every way); Vermont and Virgina also for their simplicity), but it seems most plates are moving towards the new 'too much going on' plates.
The Iowa plates aren't so bad, but there's a lot going on there that you could never make out if you're going 60 mph down the flat, straight highway:
I guess I don't understand why some states put the county name on the plate. What if there is some rivalry between counties, leading me to get pulled over more often when I cross those divisive lines? Who do I complain to then? I guess that's what happens when you grow up in a place where the counties don't matter, to the extent that your county can go bankrupt and no one notices (FYI to help you better visualize: our county will be Story, if we live in Ames, Polk if we live in Des Moines)
I think I'm going to push for this one, to show that I fit in. Something tells me it will have the opposite effect:
