This was my day yesterday. Often, teaching is exhausting and unrewarding. They don't like you, the subject matter, or the whole scholastic enterprise (or at least that's how it can feel from the front of the class). But sometimes you get reminded that they do care (and I've had more than one!). At the very least, they can appreciate the work you do to try to make challenging material more accessible. I'm a big fan of phdcomics.com (Piled Higher and Deeper - what PhD is supposed to stand for, ha ha). It's a humorous but often accurate representation of life here.
