The first thing you should realize is that Peter is writing this post, not Kimberly. Kimberly has lived in the rainy pacific northwest for almost all of her known life. Peter moved here just about 4 years ago.
Knowing this, you should be thinking to yourself: What?!?
It is raining or cloudy here in Portland almost 300 days a year. That leaves 65-70 days a year of sun. You would think that is really annoying and possibly very depressing; there are quite a few people who are depressed. But you can thank the weather for Nirvana and Pearl Jam, so it's not that bad.
But really, the rain is pretty cool. Here's a top 9 list of why the rain in Oregon is good.:
1. Because of the cloud cover 9+ months out of the year, in addition to some funky jet streams, it never really gets cold here. In the dead of winter, the temperature doesn't really ever drop below 40. Therefore, it doesn't snow much. You can be outdoorsy here 11+ months.
2. People think it rains here a lot. This keeps people from moving here. That's fine with the people who live here. Hopefully, it will keep housing prices reasonable for when we move back here, since we'll be buying in Ladd's Addition and all.
3. The clouds cling to the trees, which is pretty cool, as seen in the pic (even though this area isn't actually considered a Cloud Forest).
4. The vegetation stays green pretty much all year round.
5. It's easy to curl up with a book/newspaper/movie, with a cup of coffee/cocoa/tea/brunch when it's raining on Sunday morning.
6. The sound of rain when you're trying to sleep.
7. The sound of rain waking you in the morning.
8. The cool rain calls the salmon home. The salmon eventually lands on our plate.

Really, in missing the rain, we will really be missing the weather. Kimberly calls it "Goldilocks Weather."
